BARBARA'S LOVE OF JEWELRY

Barbara Maira Jeweler ExtraordinaireBarbara's love of jewelry began at a very young age. In fact, she is descended from a long line of jewelry lovers. As a small child, she was notorious for taking pieces out of her mother's jewelry box for “dress up” until the day she took her great aunt's diamond ring outside. The ring was lost in the grass until found by her grandmother! As an older child, Barbara's fascination was channeled into more productive activities. She has fond memories of jewelry making kits that involved cooking various colored marbles and placing them into settings. As a college student, Barbara studied Art and Art History in Italy. Her jewelry passion followed her into adulthood as she began collecting antique jewelry.

Though Barbara's original career path took her in a different direction, jewelry was never far from her mind. The inception of her pearl business and its subsequent success solidified the desire to make jewelry her life's work. She began and currently continues her education through the Gemological Institute of America. All of these revelations and actions lead to the ownership of Lisa Hunter Jewelry. Through this ownership, she has grown both artistically and professionally. As a board member of the Buffalo-Niagara chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO), she interfaces/networks with fellow business owners, sharing her experiences and learning from others. Her days are filled with creativity and a knowledge that she is sharing in the joy that jewelry brings to those around her.
